Officially started in the year 1987, but children with hemato oncological
problems were looked after since 1975 by Dr V.Pushpa . The department renders
its services to children with hemato oncological problems like Anemias due to
varies causes, bleeding disorders, Thalassemias, Aplastic anemias and also
children with blood cancers like leukemias and other cancers like lymphomas
cancer of the blood forming organs and other related disorders like
Leukemias,Lymphomas. About 200 new children with different types of cancer are
registered every year. On an average 2000 In-patients and 9000 Out-patients are
treated per year. This department is only one of its kind which looks after
exclusively poor children with blood cancer and other related problems in Tamil
Nadu with a population of nearly 60 million people out of which children
constitute 30 to 40 %. The number of cancer children who are treated in this
department has trebled in the past 10 years from 75 case in 1987 to 212 cases in
the year 1999.
To generate funds which will supplement what government provides every year we
have opened an account in the State Bank of India, Egmore branch in the style of
"CANCER CHILDREN FUND" as per G.O.D.No.603 dated 13-5-96, Health & Family
Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu. If we have large amount of money
in the core fund which can be kept in a fixed deposit the interest can be
utilised for purchase of costly drugs and other essential items for treating
these suffering children. The above fund also has 100% income tax exemption
under section 80G(2)(iiihb) of the Incometax Act 1961. The department welcomes
contributions for this noble cause from all over the country and abroad.
Children are looking forward to your help.
